In addition to seeing Jon and Tim (and Nikki, and Franklin), I wanted to check out some Oregon Trail sites. I recently read a book by Rinker Buck called, and this will blow your fucking mind, "The Oregon Trail". Buck and his brother built a wagon and drove a mule team across the historic route of the Oregon Trail within the past few years, and the book chronicles the trip. I found it to be very interesting and it piqued my curiosity about the Oregon Trail and the pioneers who traveled it.
As part of my travels on this trip, I refused to take any interstate, so all mileage was done on 2-lane state roads, gravel or dirt roads, or light trails. Many of these roads were, just by the scarcity of roads in the west, part of the original Oregon, California, or Mormon Trails, or the "predecessor" to those trails, the Pony Express route.
