So after Deals Gap, we kind of broke off, and Matt and Rachel went home and Kyle, Alan, and I went back to Pigeon Forge. Alan was nice enough to let me shower in their room, and after that I loaded up, had dinner, and drove to Matt's house to crash with him for the night.
The next morning, Monday, I woke up and it was raining. We had done 350 miles on the enduros the day before, and between dirt bike induced sore ass and the weather, I just didn't want to ride.
So, instead of riding, I drove through the Smokies and just kind of poked along and explored. I stopped at a lot of cool stuff I would ordinarily just rip by on the bike; so this would prove to be a good and relaxing day.
This is an old cabin in Cade's Cove, GSMNP. Cade's Cove is basically a large "plain" in the middle of the mountains, and was a location that early settlers lived in due to the fertile soil, ready access to water, and abundant natural resources. The park service has preserved most of it, and you can go in the structures and explore to your heart's content with no supervision. The wood on all the buildings is worn smooth from 200 years of exposure to weather and the thousands upon thousands of hands rubbing against it.
